| THE BAD |
Sidley & Austin
- articles
- cyberlaw
Visiting Sidley and Austin is a lot like going to dinner at a restaurant
that is nicely decorated, has efficient service, but does not serve food.
The publication section describes articles
by the partners and associates, but provides no links to the articles
themselves. This ignores the fundamental principle that the web is content
driven.
Sidley & Austin may be one of the few law firm web sites that could
alienate clients and visitors alike because it is an exercise in
frustration.
The cyberlaw practice group sub site
provides excellent information, and may be the best argument for the use
of practice group specialty sub sites in large firms.

Kirkland & Ellis
Kirkland took a long time to develop its web site. The site is clean, efficient
and well designed. However, Kirkland has one page that may be the
worst attorney directory on the
web. We can all learn from this page. It takes several minutes to download.
When it finally arrives, the page lists every Kirkland attorney and his
or her phone number. It does not have any links to the individual
attorney's profile, and does not include any e-mail addresses. I have several
friends at Kirkland. I hope they will not find this offensive, but perhaps
Kirkland and Sidley should merge. They seem to be coming from
the same place.
